Experts: Russian-Pakistani Leaders' Meeting Reflects Countries' Desire to Strengthen Relations

18 October 2023

The meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Pakistan's acting Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar in Beijing highlights the shared commitment of both nations to enhance and broaden their bilateral cooperation. This viewpoint was conveyed by Muhammad Taimur Fahad Khan, a researcher at the Institute of Strategic Studies in Islamabad, during a conversation with a TASS correspondent.

"In my view, the primary result of these discussions is the high-level demonstration of mutual importance between Pakistan and Russia, their readiness for collaboration across various sectors, and their shared commitment to bolstering bilateral relations," he stated.

The expert also highlighted another significant aspect, noting that Moscow and Islamabad have shown a shared commitment to "collaborate in addressing common regional challenges, particularly focusing on counterterrorism efforts and the resolution of the Afghan situation."

On October 17, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a face-to-face meeting with Pakistan's Acting Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar in Beijing, where both leaders attended the Third Belt and Road forum. This marked their first in-person meeting, with Kakar taking the oath of office as the head of Pakistan's interim government on August 14.
