The first 30 fuel trucks have arrived at the power plant supplying electricity to central Gaza, according to Al Jazeera.
This marks the first fuel delivery to the facility since the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in October 2023. Despite being non-operational throughout the conflict, the plant remained largely undamaged and could be restarted in the near future.
Local authorities in Gaza are urgently repairing power lines, aiming to restore electricity to the cities of Deir al-Balah and al-Zawaida in the coming days.
The Middle East crisis escalated on October 7, 2023, when Hamas fighters launched an attack on Israeli territory. In response, Israel initiated a ground military operation in Gaza. Hostilities continued until January 19, 2025, when a ceasefire agreement—brokered by Egypt, Qatar, and the US—came into effect.
