18 March 2021

The first shipment of Russia's Sputnik V vaccine was delivered Wednesday night to Pakistan. Geo TV reported Thursday that another batch of this coronavirus drug will be delivered to the country by the end of this week.

The vaccine was delivered to the city of Karachi, and representatives of the Russian trade mission, local health authorities and the importing company were waiting at the international airport. The vaccine is being imported by the AGP company (Ali Gohar Pharmaceuticals); according to its earlier statements, Sputnik V will be supplied to major hospitals and medical institutions.

The use of the Russian vaccine was approved by Pakistani authorities in February, and three other vaccines - by Chinese companies Sinopharm and CanSinoBio, as well as British-Swedish AstraZeneca - have been registered in the country.

Also on Wednesday, 500,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccines arrived in Islamabad from China as an aid.

So far more than 615 thousand people infected with coronavirus have been identified in Pakistan, more than 13 thousand people have died. In the past 24 hours, 3,495 new cases of infection and 61 deaths have been registered in the country.
