The first-ever international flight by Mohan Air has arrived in Grozny from Tehran. This service will operate weekly using a British-made BAe-146 aircraft, as reported by a TASS correspondent on the scene.
"We have inaugurated another international route, this time to Tehran. It has been highly anticipated. The route is in demand and will initially operate once a week. As passenger numbers increase, we will make it a daily flight," said Alvi Shakhgiriev, Director of the Chechen airport.
According to him, the first flight brought 15 Iranian travel agencies to Grozny on a familiarization trip. "On the return flight to Iran, travel agencies from the Chechen Republic will go, with an eight-day program awaiting them. I believe our people will be pleasantly surprised. Currently, the Indian Ocean coastline is being developed for tourists," added Shakhgiriev.
He reminded that Russians need a visa to travel to Iran, which can be obtained at the embassy or upon arrival. For organized groups of five or more, a visa-free regime applies.
In 2023, the passenger traffic at Grozny International Airport increased by 29.3% compared to the previous year, reaching 1 million people for the first time. The airport currently handles an average of 10 regular flights. Its existing capacity allows for the servicing of up to 25 aircraft per day, with the ability to accommodate up to 4 aircraft simultaneously.
In parallel with the current airport, construction of a terminal complex and the reconstruction of the airfield are underway in Grozny as part of the Russian Federation's state transport development program. The entire project is expected to be completed by 2025.
