Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan protests attack on Azerbaijani embassy in London

The Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan expressed its protest to the Chargé d'affaires of the United Kingdom in connection with the attack on the embassy of the country in London. It was reported on Friday by the press service of the foreign ministry.


"On August 5, the Chargé d'affaires of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Baku was summoned to the MFA. He received strong protest in connection with the attack a day earlier on the Azerbaijani embassy in London by a radical religious group," the statement said.


According to the foreign ministry, this provocation "seriously revealed the problem of security of the diplomatic mission and the host country in accordance with international legal obligations should take security measures." "Assurances were demanded that such incidents would not occur again," the report said.


In addition, it was demanded that the relevant agencies of the United Kingdom conduct a full investigation into the act of vandalism and bring the perpetrators to justice.
In turn, a British diplomat expressed regret and concern over the incident. He said an investigation is underway.


On Thursday, the Azerbaijani embassy in London was attacked by a group of religious radicals. According to the Azerbaijani MFA, the attackers broke into the embassy building and vandalized the building, hung religious flags on the balcony and shouted radical religious slogans. The embassy staff were not injured. After police intervention, the attackers were ejected from the embassy building and detained.
