Russia believes that the US should realize all the consequences of its campaign in Afghanistan, first of all, the deaths of civilians due to mistaken airstrikes, said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova.
"We believe that Washington should analyze and realize all the consequences of its 20-year military campaign in Afghanistan, meaning first of all civilian casualties caused by mistaken strikes of the US and NATO or unauthorized actions of their servicemen, as well as, of course, social and economic damage caused to the Afghan people as a result of long-term military operations," Zakharova said at a briefing on Thursday.
At a ceremony in Qatar in late February this year, the US and Taliban signed the first peace agreement in more than 18 years of war that foresees the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan in 14 months and the beginning of inter-Afghan dialogue following a prisoner exchange deal. The US military withdrew from five bases in Afghanistan as part of this agreement.
