Former Grand Mufti of Syria, Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun, was arrested by security forces of Syria’s transitional government at Damascus International Airport, according to Syria TV. The cleric was reportedly attempting to flee the country.
Meanwhile, Sham FM stated that Hassoun was en route to Amman for urgent surgery. According to the report, he had informed authorities in advance about his plans to travel to Jordan for medical treatment. However, just minutes after arriving in the airport’s VIP lounge, he was taken into custody.
