Gamaleya Center has product line for potential use in Africa

The Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Russian MoH has a line of products that could potentially be used in Africa as well as in Russia, Deputy Director of the center Denis Logunov told TASS.

"We have a whole pool of projects and a line of products that can potentially be used both in the territory of African countries and in the Russian Federation in case of importation of infections," he noted.

Logunov specified that now the center is creating so-called canned products or bases for future vaccines. There are particularly dangerous pathogens that can pose a threat in Africa and in Russia, he added. It is necessary to have a set of vaccine preparations, not necessarily brought to mass production, but which have passed the first and second phases of clinical trials. If necessary, they can be quickly transferred into medical practice, Logunov said.

"It seems to me that this is the right way where we are not dependent on trends and understand exactly what can be done," he noted.
