The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have violated the ceasefire in Gaza more than 350 times, according to a statement from the enclave's authorities, as reported by Al Jazeera.
Gaza officials have once again called on mediators to pressure Israel into expediting the delivery of humanitarian aid, which remains critically needed by the local population. According to their estimates, the enclave requires at least 60,000 mobile homes and 200,000 tents to provide temporary shelter for residents displaced by the ongoing conflict. They also stressed the urgent need for an international conference dedicated to post-war reconstruction efforts in Gaza.
The situation in the Middle East escalated sharply on October 7, 2023, when Hamas fighters crossed into Israeli territory from Gaza. In response, Israel launched a military operation aimed at dismantling Hamas' military and political infrastructure and securing the release of hostages.
On January 15, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani announced that, following mediation efforts by Doha, Cairo, and Washington, Israel and Hamas had reached an agreement on hostage releases and a ceasefire in Gaza. The agreement, structured in three phases, took effect on January 19. Under the terms of the deal, the first phase will last 42 days, during which Hamas is expected to release at least 33 Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinians held in Israeli jails.
