For the first time in over twelve months, residents of the Gaza Strip have entered Egypt to receive urgent medical assistance. According to reports from Al-Qahera al-Ikhbariya, the injured individuals are being accompanied by their relatives. Following a brief initial assessment at the border, all patients are being redirected to specialized hospitals within the North Sinai Governorate.
While specific figures regarding the number of arrivals on the first day of the Rafah crossing's reopening have not yet been released, preliminary data suggests a staggering humanitarian need. Approximately 22,000 Palestinians currently require medical treatment abroad due to the severity of their conditions and the strain on local infrastructure.
In preparation for this influx, dozens of ambulances have been stationed on the Egyptian side of the crossing since February 1. Following a directive from the Egyptian Ministry of Health, medical facilities across the republic have been placed on high alert to ensure they are fully equipped to receive and treat patients arriving from the enclave.
