GSV Delegation Continues Participation at 39 International Islamic Unity Conference

10 September

On September 9, the delegation of the Group of Strategic Vision (GSV) “Russia–Islamic World” continued its participation in the program of the 39th International Islamic Unity Conference, held in Tehran, capital of the Islamic Republic of Iran, taking part in the Consultative Meeting of Overseas Participants.

More than 30 speakers delivered proposals on topics previously discussed at the plenary session. The main focus was on the challenges the Muslim Ummah facing today and discussing ways to overcome obstacles to achieving its unity.

The speakers highly appreciated the participation of the head of state in yesterday’s plenary session and largely confirmed the theses he expressed.

Most speakers expressed concern over the lack of adequate attention by some religious and secular organizations to the Palestinian issue and insufficient support for Muslim rights, education, youth policy, and so on. They emphasized the need for a clearer position regarding the critical situation in the Gaza Strip.

Several speakers, referring to yesterday’s address by the Iranian Foreign Minister at the conference, noted the exceptional importance of unity throughout the Muslim world, calling it both a religious duty and an urgent necessity in the face of current regional and global challenges.

The evening session of the conference was held at the Imam Khomeini Memorial Center. Participants visited the Mausoleum of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, a figure who holds special sacred significance for all Iranians and Shiites generally. On behalf of the event participants, a wreath was laid at the tomb of the late Ayatollah with participation of the honor guard, followed by a series of speeches. The main attention was given to the speech by Hassan Khomeini, the Imam’s grandson, who spoke about the Imam’s role and called for remembering his merits and theological heritage.
