On July 21, a deeply troubling incident occurred in front of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Copenhagen, Denmark, where Danish ultra-nationalists burned the holy book of Muslims and desecrated the national flag of the Arab country. The Group of Strategic Vision "Russia - Islamic World" (GSV) leadership expresses its strong indignation over this act of desecration.
The GSV leadership is deeply disappointed that the authorities of European countries have not responded adequately to the calls of the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the international community to condemn interreligious intolerance and extremism. This lack of action demonstrates an inability to grasp the severity of the situation and uphold the honor and dignity of individuals from all faiths. The concept of freedom seems to be interpreted in a distorted way, resulting in a violation of fundamental human values.
Of great concern to us is the observation that Islamophobic actions have become systematic, pointing to a moral decline and decay of the moral compass in some parts of the Old World.
The West's perception of complete hegemony has led to a failure to recognize the boundaries of what is morally permissible. However, we firmly believe that the world should be characterized by mutual respect and religious tolerance, and there is no place for xenophobia and acts of vandalism against sacred relics.
