Guinean Foreign Minister cancels visit to Moscow

Guinea's foreign minister, Ibrahima Khalil Kaba, will not pay a working visit to Moscow, which had been scheduled for September 6-8, due to the internal situation in the country the Russian foreign ministry told TASS on Monday.


"The visit of Guinea's foreign minister to Russia has been canceled due to the internal situation in Guinea," the Russian foreign ministry pointed out.


On September 5, an elite Guinean special forces unit led by colonel Mamadi Doumbouya entered the government quarter of Conakry and positioned itself in front of the presidential palace, witnesses reported gunfire. Rebel leader Doumbouya appeared on national television and announced the detention of president Alpha Condé, the dissolution of the government and the suspension of the constitution.
