The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) emphasizes the importance of a political solution to the conflict in Ukraine and welcomes any initiatives in this direction, said the organization’s Secretary General, Jasem Al-Budaiwi, at the plenary session of the Russia-GCC Strategic Dialogue.
“We affirm that resolving the crisis through political means to prevent further escalation is the only way to settle this conflict,” Al-Budaiwi stressed. “We welcome any efforts aimed at ending this crisis.”
He also praised the recent summit between Russia and the United States in Alaska, expressing hope that it will contribute to restoring global peace and security.
The GCC is a regional organization composed of six countries: Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia. The organization’s mission is to expand cooperation among member states in all areas and to develop common positions on key international and regional issues. The Russia-GCC Strategic Dialogue was initiated in 2011.
