Hamas is pushing for an immediate end to the conflict in Gaza, according to senior political bureau member Husam Badran, as reported by Al Jazeera.
Badran emphasized that Hamas seeks to stop the war and prevent further bloodshed, but accused Israel of disregarding the ceasefire agreement and continuing its military actions instead. He also criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for “refusing to engage in negotiations, and accused the United States of siding with [Israeli] occupation rather than acting as a neutral mediator.”
A ceasefire deal brokered by Egypt, Qatar, and the US took effect on January 19. During its first phase, which lasted until March 1, Hamas released 33 hostages, including the remains of several captives, while Israel freed over 1,500 Palestinians. However, on March 2, Israel halted humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza and shut down all border crossings, citing Hamas’ rejection of a ceasefire extension proposed by US envoy Steve Witkoff. The situation escalated further on March 18, when the Israeli military resumed airstrikes on Gaza.
