The Palestinian Hamas movement has confirmed an agreement with Israel for a four-day truce and the release of hostages held by it in exchange for prisoners from Israeli jails. A statement to this effect was posted on Hamas' Telegram channel.
"After days of challenging negotiations, we announce that we have reached an agreement on a humanitarian truce for four days thanks to the tireless and skillful efforts of Qatar and Egypt," the statement said. Hamas confirmed that the agreements would include the release of "50 prisoners, women, and children under the age of 19, in exchange for the release of 150 women and children under the age of 19" from Israeli prisons.
The statement added that as part of the agreement with the Israeli government, both sides will commit to a ceasefire, guaranteeing a halt to "all hostilities in all areas of the Gaza Strip." In addition, there will be the delivery of "hundreds of truckloads of humanitarian, emergency, medical aid as well as fuel to all areas of the Gaza Strip, north and south, without exception."
Hamas has outlined specific terms for the humanitarian pause, announcing that "air traffic will be completely halted in the southern Gaza Strip for four days" and will be partially restricted in the northern region. "In the north, air traffic will experience daily suspensions for six hours, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. [local time], according to the statement. Additionally, the occupiers (Israeli troops - TASS) have committed to refraining from attacking or arresting individuals in all areas of the Gaza Strip during the truce. Furthermore, they will ensure the freedom of movement for people traveling from north to south along the Salah al-Din highway throughout the truce period," as stated in the text.
