The Palestinian movement Hamas has confirmed that a second group of Israeli hostages will be released on Saturday, January 25, in exchange for the release of Palestinians from Israeli jails. The announcement was made via the group’s official Telegram channel.
“Hamas confirms that the second round of prisoner exchanges [under the agreement with Israel] will proceed as scheduled—on Saturday, January 25,” the statement reads. Details on the number of hostages to be released have not yet been disclosed.
Israeli Channel 12 previously reported, citing sources, that Hamas plans to provide mediators with lists of hostages it intends to release every Friday, with the releases taking place on Saturdays as part of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
On January 15, Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, announced that mediation efforts by Washington, Doha, and Cairo had led to an agreement between the conflicting parties for the release of hostages and the implementation of a ceasefire in the region.
