The Palestinian movement Hamas remains engaged in negotiations with mediators over a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, insisting that Israel must adhere to the original terms rather than introducing new proposals.
"Our discussions with mediators on the ceasefire agreement are ongoing. We are working to ensure that Israel abides by the previously agreed terms and abandons its unilateral plans," Hamas spokesperson Abdel Latif al-Qanoua stated on Telegram. He reaffirmed that Hamas is committed to the agreement reached in mid-January and continues to demand the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
Another Hamas representative, Abdel Rahman Shadid, told Qatar’s Al Jazeera that the group had received Israel’s latest ceasefire proposal via mediators but dismissed it as incomplete and failing to guarantee a full cessation of hostilities. He did not disclose specific details of Israel’s offer.
On March 18, the Israel Defense Forces launched extensive strikes on Hamas targets in Gaza. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office justified the attacks, citing Hamas’ rejection of proposals presented by mediators and US Envoy Steve Witkoff.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, the escalation has resulted in over 436 deaths and at least 678 injuries. By March 20, Sky News Arabia, citing medical sources, reported that the death toll had risen to 700, with more than 900 wounded.
