Hamas Criticizes Arab and Muslim States for Weak Position on Gaza Crisis

26 May

The Palestinian movement Hamas has criticized Arab and Muslim countries for a weak stance on the situation in the Gaza Strip, urging them to take more decisive actions to restrain Israel. The statement was published on the movement’s official Telegram channel.

"In light of the ongoing crimes [committed by Israel against Palestinians in Gaza], we regret the weak position of Arab and Muslim governments, which continue to limit their response to mere verbal condemnation [of Israeli actions]," the statement reads. Hamas called on these countries to take "urgent measures," including severing ties with states that maintain relations with Israel and "using all political, diplomatic, and economic pressure tools to curb [Israeli] aggression."

The movement also condemned an Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) strike on a school building in Gaza City, accusing Israel of employing a scorched-earth tactic in the enclave and seeking to forcibly displace Palestinians.

Earlier, Arab media reported that more than 30 people were killed in the shelling of the Fahmi al-Jarjawi school in Gaza. It was reported that the targeted building was sheltering refugees and displaced persons.
