President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov has called on the countries of Central Asia to jointly resist attempts to destabilize the situation in the region. He said this on Thursday in Cholpon-Ata (Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan) during the Fourth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of States of Central Asia.

"The tragic events in the region have brought security issues to the forefront," he said.

In the future, joint efforts  to prevent "similar crises created for far-fetched reasons" should be made, he said. Zhaparov emphasized that religious fanatics and criminal circles play an active part in attempts to destabilize the situation.

Presidents Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan, Sadyr Zhaparov of Kyrgyzstan, Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan and Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan participate in the meeting in Cholpon-Ata.
