Head of Rostourism asked to check Egyptian hotels and cafes after poisoning of Russians

The head of Rostourism Zarina Doguzova asked to check the hotels and cafes in Egypt after the poisoning of Russian tourists in a hotel in Hurghada, said the press service of the department following a telephone conversation between Doguzova and the minister of tourism and antiquities of the republic Khaled Elenani.


"In connection with the latest incident with the mass poisoning of Russian tourists, I asked my Egyptian colleague to take this issue under personal control and initiate together with the sanitary services of Egyptian inspections of resort hotels and catering facilities. Mr. Elenani reported that the prosecutor's investigation on food poisoning of our tourists has started in Egypt, and for his part expressed readiness to take all necessary measures to ensure safe and comfortable stay of Russian tourists in Egypt," said Doguzova.


The telephone conversation took place on the initiative of the Russian side after more than 40 tourists from Russia, who lived in AMC Royal Hotel in Hurghada, addressed for medical help with the signs of poisoning. Some of them were hospitalized. At present all of them have been discharged from the hospital, their health is not threatened. Russian tourists have been insured and received all necessary treatment, says Rostourism.


An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident. AMC Royal Hotel is temporarily closed for new tourists. Russian tour operators have suspended the sale of tours to the hotel. Almost all Russian tourists have been moved to other hotels. The rest refused to change hotel, because they will be returning home soon. Tourists who have purchased tours to AMC Royal Hotel for the next arrivals are offered accommodation in other hotels, the agency said.
