Hezbollah: Sinwar's Election as Hamas Leader Signals Failure of Israeli Plans

07 August

Hezbollah has praised the election of Yahya Sinwar as the head of the Palestinian Hamas movement, viewing it as a significant setback for Israel's strategies. The Lebanese Shiite party issued a statement via its Telegram channel, interpreting Sinwar's election as a strong message to Israel.

"The election of Sinwar, who remains entrenched in the besieged Gaza Strip, symbolizes the failure of Israel's efforts to undermine the leadership of Palestinian resistance forces," the statement highlighted.

Hezbollah described the decision "as a clear signal to both Israel and its ally, the United States, that Hamas remains united and resolute in its struggle despite ongoing sacrifices."

Hezbollah also affirmed its commitment, along with its allies, to continue supporting the Palestinian people and their fight for liberation from occupation.

Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz responded to Sinwar’s election by calling it “another reason to remove him quickly.”

On July 31, Hamas announced that its former politburo chairman, Ismail Haniyeh, was killed in an Israeli strike on his residence in Tehran. Haniyeh had traveled to Iran to attend the inauguration of President-elect Massoud Pezeshkian. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed the assassination was carried out with a short-range projectile and said that it was orchestrated by Israel with US support. Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has vowed retaliation against Israel in response.
