Hundreds of Schools and Mosques Damaged in Iran Unrest

19 January

More than 250 schools, 300 mosques, and 90 seminaries have been damaged during the recent wave of unrest in Iran, according to Ebrahim Azizi, Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee.

Speaking to the Tasnim news agency, Azizi detailed the extent of the infrastructure damage reported during the crisis. "Throughout these events, over 250 schools were damaged, along with 300 mosques, 90 religious schools, and 2,221 vehicles belonging to law enforcement and the Basij [paramilitary forces of the IRGC]," he stated.

The unrest erupted on December 29, initially sparked by street protests over the sharp devaluation of the Iranian rial. The demonstrations quickly spread to most major urban centers. Authorities have reported that approximately 40 security personnel lost their lives during the clashes.

Since January 8, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has alleged that armed terrorists have infiltrated the ranks of the demonstrators. Tehran has officially attributed the organization of the unrest to Israel and the United States.
