International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director-General Raphael Grossi is set to meet Monday with the head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization to discuss problems related to Iran's nuclear program.
"The IAEA is the atomic regulator, and we take our work seriously. We must prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons and make sure that this good — nuclear energy for peace and development — is not turned into a tool for destruction and suffering," Grossi said Monday at the 66th annual session of the IAEA General Conference. - "More and more countries are moving toward nuclear power. We currently have several problems, including those that are making headlines, that we have to resolve with the Islamic Republic of Iran. And I welcome the chairman of Iran's atomic agency to meet with us later today, because we have to look for common solutions to problems that won't go away if we don't solve them in a cooperative way."
Grossi said earlier that the IAEA could not guarantee the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program because Tehran had not provided the information needed to do so on the origin of uranium particles at three sites. To do so, he said, Iran must explain the presence of "man-made uranium particles" at the three undeclared sites and inform the IAEA of the location of nuclear material and contaminated equipment.
Russia is in favor of a productive conversation between Iran and the IAEA to address the agency's questions about Tehran's nuclear program and is confident that the sides can find the necessary answers, Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia's Permanent Representative to international organizations in Vienna, said in an interview with TASS.
