Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto at a meeting with Russian Ambassador in Jakarta Lyudmila Vorobyeva expressed the hope for developing relations between the two countries. He posted footage from the meeting on his Instagram page (owned by Meta, activities are recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).
"[I] received Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Lyudmila Vorobyeva. At the meeting, we discussed cooperation between the two countries," he wrote, noting that issues related to defense and strengthening the technical equipment of the Indonesian army, among others, were touched upon.
"We hope that relations between the two countries, which have existed for a long time, will develop well," he added. The minister also expressed the Indonesian side's willingness to help resolve the crisis in Ukraine, but did not give details of the conversation in this regard.
On June 3, the Indonesian defense chief proposed the plan for the peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine, which includes a ceasefire, the creation of a demilitarized zone and the deployment of UN peacekeepers. The initiative was presented during his speech at the Shangri-La Dialogue security conference in Singapore.
The Russian embassy in Indonesia told TASS that Moscow values Jakarta's efforts to help resolve the crisis in Ukraine, but the rejection of the Indonesian initiative indicates that Kiev and its handlers are unwilling to consider peaceful options to resolve the conflict.
