Indonesian President Joko Widodo expressed his intention to talk with US President Joe Biden about the outcomes of the joint summit between the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Riyadh. Additionally, he aims to deliver a message from Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas during their discussions.
"The summit has endorsed a resolution carrying a powerful peace message. This is the message I'll convey to President Biden. These represent the votes of 57 countries, a third of the world's total votes," as quoted by the Antara news agency.
As the agency notes, Widodo also plans to deliver a message from the Palestinian leader, with whom he had a personal meeting in Riyadh. However, the exact contents of the message were not specified by the Indonesian president. Widodo is currently on a visit to the United States and is scheduled to meet with Biden on November 13.
The final statement from the joint Arab League and OIC summit emphasized that Israel's military campaign in the Gaza Strip should not result in the enclave's separation from a unified Palestinian state. The parties opposed the use of double standards in the ongoing conflict and expressed their intent to document Israeli war crimes in the Gaza Strip.
The situation in the Middle East significantly escalated after fighters from the Palestinian movement Hamas infiltrated Israel from the Gaza Strip on October 7. Hamas referred to the attack as a response to Israeli actions against the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Israel imposed a complete blockade on Gaza and conducted retaliatory strikes on the enclave, as well as parts of Lebanon and Syria. Additionally, clashes are occurring in the West Bank.
