Interfaith Council of Russia urged to restore the shrines of the Middle East

26 November 2019

The authorities and the world community must do everything possible to restore holy places in the Middle East, reads a statement following the meeting of the Council.

"We call on political leaders to make balanced and wise decisions and call on all people of goodwill to join the process of restoring the holy places of Syria, Iraq and other countries in the region," the document reads.

The religious map of the Middle East, according to religious leaders of Russia, has lost its diversity, and therefore they hope that " the powers that be show the will to preserve the holy places of the Middle East, so dear to the hearts of believers of the largest religions in the world."

The Interfaith Council of Russia unites heads and representatives of the leading religious organizations of Russia.
