Iran Claims Israel Respects International Norms Only Under Pressure

08 August

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani has asserted that Israel adheres to humanitarian norms only when faced with pressure from the international community. His remarks were a response to Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich's call to block aid shipments to the Gaza Strip.

Kanani stated on X (formerly Twitter), “The world should now recognize that the criminal  Zionist regime (Israel — TASS) will only comply with international law when confronted with pressure and decisive actions.” He further criticized Smotrich’s comments, which suggested that deliberately starving two million Palestinians could be justified as a means to free hostages, and called for such statements to be prosecuted under international law.

The Iranian diplomat urged Europe to go beyond mere verbal condemnation. “Instead of just condemning these remarks, Europe would be better served by immediately cutting off all political and military support for this regime,” Kanani emphasized.
