Hassan Kazemi Qomi, the special representative of the Iranian president for Afghan affairs, condemned a Taliban (banned in Russia) representative’s refusal to stand during Iran’s national anthem at the 38th International Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran.
“Disrespecting diplomatic principles under the pretext of a Sharia law ban on singing makes no sense. Even if that were the case, it was merely a listening session,” the Iranian president's representative posted on X (formerly Twitter).
The 38th International Islamic Unity Conference took place in Tehran on September 19, attended by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. In a broadcast of the opening ceremony aired by IRIB, the Taliban representative was seen refusing to stand while the anthem of the Islamic Republic of Iran was played.
