Iran Declares Nuclear Doctrine Changes Contrary to National Interests

14 November

Any proposed changes to Iran's nuclear doctrine contradict the interests of the Islamic Republic and merely intensify external pressure on the country, stated Abolfazl Zohrevand, a member of Iran's Parliamentary Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, in an interview with ILNA news agency.

“If any changes are made to the nuclear doctrine, they will occur at the highest level within the Supreme National Security Council—not within the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Parliament, but at the most senior level. The Supreme Leader [Ayatollah Ali Khamenei] has already expressed Iran’s firm stance. I am unsure of the motives behind those advocating for these changes; they are either misguided or aiming to provoke more pressure on Iran," Zohrevand commented when asked about discussions on altering the nuclear doctrine. He emphasized that those proposing such ideas "fail to consider the country's national interests."

He also expressed concern that foreign governments observing Iran could exploit these internal debates for propaganda purposes, even though they are aware that such decisions are made at the highest level.

On November 1, Kamal Kharrazi, an advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader, stated in an interview with Al Mayadeen that a shift in Iran's nuclear doctrine is still possible if the nation faces an existential threat. According to him, Tehran has the technical capability to produce nuclear weapons, with the Supreme Leader’s fatwa being the only deterrent.
