Iran has officially denied ownership of the cargo found on the oil tanker MT-ARMAN 114, which was intercepted by the Indonesian coast guard. The Iranian oil ministry reported this information through the Tasnim news agency on Friday.
According to the Iranian ministry's statement, they have confirmed that the cargo weighing 273,000 tons of crude oil, valued at approximately $304 million, does not belong to Iran. However, the statement did not disclose the specific owner of the cargo.
The incident occurred on July 11 when the Iranian-flagged tanker was detained by the Indonesian Coast Guard for allegedly engaging in illegal transportation and unauthorized transfer of the cargo to another vessel. Aan Kurnia, the head of Indonesia's maritime security agency, revealed that the tanker had provided a false geolocation, attempting to deceive authorities by indicating it was in the Red Sea while being in Indonesian waters. Following the interception, the ship's captain, an Egyptian national, along with 28 crew members and three family members of the security officer on board were taken into custody.
