The Iranian Prosecutor's Office has launched criminal proceedings against 25 high-profile figures from the worlds of sports and cinema for their alleged role in supporting recent nationwide unrest. The announcement was made by the press service of the Islamic Republic's judiciary.
According to a statement carried by the Mehr news agency, the charges stem from the protest waves that occurred on January 8 and 9, 2026. "The Tehran Prosecutor's Office has opened criminal cases against 15 athletes and actors, as well as 10 prominent figures in the film industry," the report noted.
In addition to the criminal charges, the Prosecutor’s Office has ordered the seizure of property belonging to several suspects. These assets are reportedly intended to serve as restitution for the damage to public and private property attributed to the demonstrations.
