Iran Reports No Obstacles to Military-Technical Cooperation with Russia

02 July

Military-technical cooperation between Iran and Russia is ongoing without any hindrance, Kamal Kharazi, an adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and head of Iran's Strategic Council for International Relations, said in an interview with the Financial Times.

"There are no obstacles between Iran and Russia to conclude arms deals," Kharazi stated. He mentioned that Tehran has already negotiated the purchase of Russian fighter jets. "We should sign a strategic comprehensive agreement with them [Russia] in the near future," he added.

Kharazi also dismissed accusations that Iran has been selling drones to Russia, labeling them as false.

On June 27, Russian Ambassador to Iran Alexei Dedov noted that the comprehensive cooperation agreement between Russia and Iran is nearing completion. He mentioned that the signing will occur under the new Iranian government after the presidential elections.

Last November, Iranian Deputy Defense Minister General Mahdi Farahi confirmed the Islamic Republic's acquisition of Russian Mi-28 attack helicopters, Su-35 fighter jets, and Yak-130 combat trainer aircraft, stating that the process was ongoing.
