Iran has no intention of severing its friendly relations with Russia in response to demands from European countries, whose behavior Tehran views as destructive toward resolving the conflict in Ukraine, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said.
“It is completely illogical to expect that every country maintaining friendly relations with Russia would break them off simply because Europe demands it,” Baghaei told reporters at a press conference.
He added that European states should reflect on their own actions and examine the root causes of the conflict in Ukraine. “Before criticizing others, they must take responsibility for their own behavior and stop placing blame elsewhere, as such an approach does nothing to resolve the issue,” the diplomat said.
On December 15, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov noted that Moscow had repeatedly warned Europe about the causes and potential consequences of the conflict in Ukraine, but the West chose to ignore those warnings.
