Iran and Syria have reached a consensus on transitioning to trade in their national currencies. Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Hossein Abdollahian made the announcement during a joint press conference with his Syrian counterpart Faisal Mekdad, who is currently visiting Tehran.
"We are pleased to announce today that certain agreements in the fields of commerce and technology, which were reached during the Iranian president's visit to Damascus, have now been realized," - quoted Tasnim News Agency Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Hossein Abdollahian as saying. - "Specifically, we can announce the establishment of a joint insurance company, as well as present an agreement on trade in the national currencies of our respective states."
The minister also highlighted that as part of the Iran-Syria agreements, the border regime between the two countries has been simplified, and the number of direct flights has increased.
In May, Mehr reported on the talks held between Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in Damascus, focusing on enhancing trade and economic ties between the two nations. Following the talks, both parties signed a memorandum on a long-term strategic partnership for a period of 20 years.
