Iran to Sign Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement with Russia at BRICS Summit

18 September

Iran is planning to sign a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement with Russia during the visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Kazan for the BRICS summit, scheduled from October 22 to 24, Abolfazl Zohrevand, a member of the Iranian Parliament's Commission on National Security and Foreign Policy, told.

“Iran and Russia are advancing toward strategic cooperation, and during President Pezeshkian's upcoming visit to Russia, we will witness the signing of the strategic partnership agreement between the two countries,” Zohrevand stated in an interview with Tasnim news agency.

Zohrevand also commented on allegations by European authorities regarding Iran’s alleged supply of ballistic missiles to Russia, asserting that Europe is attempting to “slow down and disrupt the process of strategic cooperation between Iran and Russia by applying pressure on Iranian public opinion.” He mentioned that if the European Union imposes sanctions on Iran over these claims, it will try to suggest that these sanctions are a result of Tehran's strategic cooperation with Moscow.

On September 7, Iran's ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, told TASS that the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement between the two countries is ready and may be signed at the BRICS summit in Kazan or later during a separate meeting of the presidents.

On September 17, the Iranian president expressed his eagerness to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the BRICS summit in Kazan.
