Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called on the UK, Germany, and France to reconsider their policies toward Tehran, expressing disappointment over their recent actions—particularly the imposition of new sanctions.
During a phone conversation with his British counterpart, David Lammy, Araghchi criticized what he described as an unconstructive stance from European nations and the EU. "Despite four rounds of negotiations between Iran and the European trio, certain moves—especially the latest sanctions imposed under baseless pretexts—are disappointing. We urge these countries to reassess their approach to Iran," the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Araghchi also addressed what he sees as contradictory messages from US officials, stressing that Iran does not accept diplomacy being used as a tool for political and psychological pressure.
Previously, the Iranian Foreign Minister confirmed that Tehran had formally responded to a letter from US President Donald Trump to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, with Oman acting as an intermediary.
Talks between Iran and the European trio on Iran’s nuclear program resumed in September 2024 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. The most recent round of discussions—the fourth—took place in February during Araghchi’s visit to Geneva.
