Iranian Ambassador: Tehran-Moscow Relations Unaffected by External Factors

24 February

The visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to Tehran aims to strengthen Russian-Iranian relations. According to Iran’s ambassador to Moscow, Kazem Jalali, external factors have no influence on the stability of the partnership between the two countries.

“The Russian Foreign Minister’s visit to Tehran continues the course of deepening cooperation between our nations and enhancing high-level dialogue on a wide range of bilateral, regional, and international issues. This dialogue is more necessary than ever,” Jalali wrote on X.

He emphasized that relations between the two countries have been reinforced by the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, signed on January 17 at the Kremlin by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The treaty, according to Jalali, “prevents any ordinary events from affecting our relations.”

Jalali also noted that Russian-Iranian ties “are historical, independent of external factors, based on national interests, and aimed at peace and development.”

On February 22, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova confirmed to TASS that Lavrov’s visit to Tehran would take place soon. According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Lavrov is scheduled to meet with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss the development of bilateral relations and current global and regional events.
