Iranian Foreign Minister Visits Pakistan to Normalize Bilateral Relations

29 January

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian has arrived in Pakistan as part of efforts to settle tensions that arose after the Iranian Armed Forces struck two headquarters of the terrorist group "Jaish al-Zolm", located on Pakistani territory. This was reported by the press service of the Pakistan Foreign Ministry.

"The Iranian foreign minister arrived in Islamabad at the invitation of Pakistan's acting Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani," - the statement said. - "He was received at Noor Khan airport by Pakistan's Deputy Foreign Minister for Afghanistan and West Asian Affairs Rahim Hayat Qureshi. During his visit, the Iranian foreign minister is scheduled to meet with the acting foreign minister of Pakistan, as well as with the acting Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar."

The primary focus of the upcoming discussions is the reduction of tension in relations between the two countries, triggered by the January 16 strike by the Iranian Armed Forces on two headquarters of the terrorist group Jaish al-Zolm on Pakistani territory. The uncoordinated actions of the Iranian military led to an immediate response from Islamabad.

On January 17, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry announced the recall of its ambassador Muhammad Mudassir Tipu from Tehran and advised the head of the Iranian diplomatic mission Reza Amiri Moghaddam, who was in his home country at the time, not to return to Islamabad for the time being. On January 18, the Pakistani Armed Forces conducted an anti-terrorist operation targeting the hideouts of Balochistan Liberation Front and Balochistan Liberation Army extremists in Iran's Sistan and Balochistan province.

On January 22, following consultations at the agency level, Islamabad and Tehran announced their readiness to resolve the contradictions arising in this regard. As the first steps in this direction, a decision was taken on the mutual return of ambassadors by January 26 and the organization of an official visit of the Iranian foreign minister to Pakistan on January 29.
