Iranian MFA says cooperation with Russia is not directed against third countries

Iran's cooperation with Russia is based on common interests and is not directed against third countries, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani told a press conference on Monday.

"Iran's cooperation with Russia is based on the common interests of the two countries and is not directed against any third country," the diplomat was quoted by the Tasnim news agency as saying.

The Iranian foreign ministry spokesman stressed that statements about his country's alleged construction of unmanned aerial vehicles on Russian territory and Moscow's purchase of missiles from Tehran are "politically motivated and made by parties that constantly provide weapons to one of the parties to the conflict, which helps it continue." "Iran's positions have been repeatedly voiced. We are not a party to the conflict in Ukraine and believe that a diplomatic solution is the way to end it, and we have repeatedly stressed that we have not sent weapons to either side," he said.

In August, The Washington Post published an article claiming that Iran was supplying Russia with its drones. Subsequently, similar statements were made by US administration officials. Moscow and Tehran have repeatedly denied allegations of Iranian drones being delivered to Russia for use in Ukraine. Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov called such reports fake and stressed that the Russian army uses domestically produced drones.
