Iranian MP Calls for Revision of Defense Doctrine Prohibiting Nuclear Weapons

08 October

Iranian parliament member Hassanali Ehlaki Amiri has called on the country’s Supreme National Security Council to consider revising the current defense doctrine, which prohibits the development of nuclear weapons.

Speaking before lawmakers, Ehlaki Amiri stated, “At a time when the evil Zionist regime [referring to Israel] has become utterly inhumane and none of the international organizations, nor the countries of Europe or America, can control this rabid dog, I appeal to the Supreme National Security Council to discuss the revision of the defense doctrine and present proposals [for consideration] to the Supreme Leader [Ayatollah Ali Khamenei].”

He challenged his colleagues, questioning, “Is the breath of this fleeting world so valuable to you that you accept humiliation and abandon your dignity, honor, and ambitions?”

Iran has repeatedly emphasized that the country follows a fatwa issued by its Supreme Leader, declaring that the production of nuclear weapons is against Islam. Iranian officials often cite this as evidence of the peaceful nature of the nation's nuclear program. The current defense doctrine strictly prohibits the creation of such weapons.
