Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi will visit several African countries in the next six months. This was announced Monday by Head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry's Africa Department Valiullah Mohammadi Nasrabadi.
"The president will visit a number of African states in the first half of this year (until September 22 by the Iranian calendar - TASS)," Nasrabadi said in an interview with ISNA. The dates of the trip are being agreed upon. This year, meetings of bilateral commissions with Burundi, Kenya, Cote d'Ivoire, Senegal, Tanzania and South Africa are also expected.
The department director estimates that this year, "trade between Iran and African countries will grow to $2 billion." Nigeria is the continent's biggest trading partner, with increased trade from $18 million to $130 million in the past two years. Nasrabadi also noted that last year, the Islamic Republic established trade development centers in Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Cote d'Ivoire, Tanzania and Uganda.
In March this year, Tehran hosted the first summit on scientific and economic cooperation between Iran and West African countries, which addressed increasing investment, developing transport connectivity, using Iranian technology, cooperation in mining and agriculture, removing barriers to trade and mutual reduction of customs duties.
