Current diplomatic efforts aimed at restarting dialogue between Iran and the United States are unlikely to stop Israel’s ongoing military aggression, said Iran’s Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva, Ali Bahreini.
“Regarding initiatives to launch talks or mediation — as far as I know, yes, there are some countries trying to take action,” Bahreini said during a briefing with the Association of Correspondents Accredited to the United Nations (ACANU) in Geneva. He was responding to a question from TASS about whether any dialogue is underway between Iran and the US via Switzerland, which represents American interests in Tehran, to de-escalate the current crisis.
The diplomat acknowledged Switzerland’s willingness to play a constructive role in easing tensions but added, “I’m not sure that any of these initiatives, at this moment, are capable of altering the situation.”
