Iraqi PM: Nation Refuses Involvement in a Conflict Devoid of Legal Basis

31 March

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani has affirmed that his country seeks to remain uninvolved in a Middle Eastern conflict that lacks any legal justification.

"It is quite clear that the armed forces must defend themselves against unidentified attacks," the prime minister stated in an interview with the Spanish newspaper El País. "We cannot remain idle when we have martyrs and wounded." He specifically cited recent escalations, noting, "A clinic was attacked at the Habbaniya military base, resulting in fatalities, and an attack in Mosul claimed the lives of a brigadier and a police officer. We reject these assaults and maintain our right to self-defense."

Al-Sudani emphasized that "Iraq does not want to participate in this war, which is devoid of any legal grounds and represents aggression against a sovereign state." He further cautioned that "we are in an extremely sensitive region, which is already a theater for an international conflict involving more than 14 countries."
