Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani will participate in the first Russia-Arab summit scheduled for October 15 in Moscow and plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was announced by al-Sudani’s national security advisor, Qasim al-Araji.
According to Iraq’s INA news agency, al-Araji discussed preparations for al-Sudani’s upcoming meeting with Putin during talks with Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu, who is currently visiting Baghdad. Al-Sudani will lead the Iraqi delegation at the summit in Moscow, al-Araji noted.
During the meeting with Shoigu, al-Araji stressed that the Iraqi government is strongly committed to developing strategic relations with Russia, including in the security sector.
Earlier, the Russian Security Council’s press service reported that Shoigu arrived in Baghdad on a working visit to meet with Iraq’s top political and military leaders. The forthcoming discussions will convey Russia’s intent to strengthen and expand cooperation in security matters. Regional issues, alongside current bilateral cooperation aspects, are also on the agenda.
