Israel Defense Forces fighter jets struck a weapons shop of the radical Palestinian Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip in response to a rocket fired April 18 into Jewish territory. The army press office reported this on Tuesday.

"An earlier rocket launched from the Gaza Strip was detected and was intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system. In response to this attack, Israel Defense Forces fighter jets struck the Hamas terrorist organization's armory in the Gaza Strip," the statement said. Israel considers Hamas "responsible for any terrorist activity whose source is the Gaza Strip," the press service added.

Radicals from Gaza fired one rocket into Israeli territory on Monday night; it was intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system. Radio Kan notes that this is the first rocket attack on Israeli territory by Palestinian radicals from the Gaza Strip since mid-September of last year.

On May 21, 2021, a cease-fire came into effect between Israel and Palestinian factions, which had exchanged rocket attacks for 11 days before. The victims of the confrontation were 257 residents of the Gaza Strip, about 2 thousand were wounded. Thirteen people were killed on the Israeli side.
