Israel struck Hamas facilities in Gaza for the second time during the night

21 April 2022

Israeli fighter jets struck a radical Palestinian Hamas military facility in the Gaza Strip for the second time overnight Thursday in response to anti-aircraft fire in a previous attack following a rocket launch against Israel, the army press office reported.

"Israel Defense Forces fighters struck a military facility of the Hamas terrorist organization in the Gaza Strip in response to anti-aircraft fire [on Israeli planes] during a previous Army strike on terrorist facilities in the Gaza Strip, and in addition to the strike carried out earlier this night. The anti-aircraft fire did not hit the target. There were no reports of injuries or damage to Israeli army aircraft," the statement said.

The press office earlier reported that radicals from Gaza fired one rocket into Israel on Wednesday night. According to Radio Kan, the projectile was not intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system, but fell near the city of Sderot near the border with the Palestinian enclave, causing damage. In response, Israeli fighter jets on Thursday night struck for the first time in the Gaza Strip "a military post and the entrance to a tunnel leading to an underground complex containing raw materials used to produce rocket engines," the press office reported. Palestinian radicals then fired four more rockets from the enclave into Israel, which were intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system, followed by another rocket that did not fly into Israeli territory.

On April 18, the first rocket since September 2021 was fired at Israel from the Gaza Strip and intercepted; in response, Israeli fighter jets struck a Hamas military facility in the enclave on the night of April 19. On May 21, 2021, a cease-fire came into effect between Israel and Palestinian factions, which had exchanged rocket attacks for 11 days before. The victims of confrontation were 257 residents of the Gaza Strip, about 2 thousand were wounded. Thirteen people were killed on the Israeli side.
