Russia will participate in the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project if such a proposal is received from the partners. Russian President's Special Representative for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov said on Friday on the air of the Rossiya-24 TV channel.
"Russia will participate under the conditions that the partners of this project will make such an offer," the diplomat said.
He stressed that many years ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin indicated his readiness to facilitate such a process.
"This is an integral part of Russia's strategy of turning toward Asia, and this is its economic part, so we are ready to join this [project]," Kabulov added. - "Russia has always supported this project as important not only for Afghanistan itself, but also for the entire large Asian continent, which has an increased shortage of hydrocarbons."
According to the special representative of the Russian president, the key issue is to ensure security in Afghanistan, and the other conditions are feasible. "The current leadership is extremely interested in such projects that will help raise the economy of this country, which has fallen into a deplorable state due to the fault of those who gather today in Ramstein (a meeting of defense ministers of Western countries will be held on Friday at the American Ramstein airbase in Germany - TASS)," he pointed out.
