18 August 2021

Representatives of African, Middle Eastern and South-Eastern Asian countries show a great interest in the products of the Russian Kalashnikov concern, Vladimir Onokoy, head of the direction of the Kalashnikov Concern's Armaments Cooperation Directorate, told TASS on Wednesday at the international defense industry exhibition IDEF'21 in Istanbul.

"Kalashnikov Concern is participating at IDEF 2021 as part of Rosoboronexport's exposition. We are very glad to have this opportunity, as IDEF is an international exhibition, which is visited not only by the Turkish side, but also by interested people from all over the region, so here we have a chance to talk to Turkish army representatives, also to talk to potential partners about sales to the civilian market and at the same time to talk with a great number of our partners from all over the world. As usual there is a great interest in our products from African countries, the Middle East and Southeast Asia," the interlocutor said.

According to him "a lot of negotiations are planned within the framework of the exhibition, but of course, only part of our products is represented here". "The bulk of our products, including new products, will be presented next week at the Army 2021 exhibition, which will be held in Moscow. There we will present a whole range of new products, both in the area of small arms and in other areas," he added.

The IDEF'21 exhibition opened on Tuesday at the TUYAP exhibition center in Istanbul and will run until Aug. 20. The exhibition is organized by Turkey's Ministry of National Defense under the auspices of the Turkish presidential administration and will be held in Turkey's largest city for the 15th time. The exhibition will be attended by leading Turkish defense industry concerns including a number of Russian companies (Rosoboronexport, Kalashnikov Group, VKO Almaz-Antey).

Exhibition organizers told TASS that TUYAP will present a wide range of products of 1,236 defense companies from 53 countries, including 536 Turkish companies. The participation of 154 delegations from 79 countries is planned. At the end of the exhibition, a number of contracts are expected to be signed, as well as the presentation of new products.
