Kazakhstan's Institute of Nuclear Physics and the Russian company Rosatom Technologies for Construction have signed a memorandum of understanding for the joint development of a multi-purpose research reactor and laboratory complex. The two countries have also signed a cooperation agreement to create a Nuclear Science and Technology Center in Kazakhstan. This was announced by the Kazakh atomic energy agency.
"A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the Institute of Nuclear Physics [of Kazakhstan] and the company Rosatom Technologies for Construction. The document formalizes the intention to jointly develop a project for the construction of a multi-purpose research reactor and a laboratory complex, as well as to expand cooperation in the peaceful use of atomic energy. (...) Additionally, during the event, a cooperation agreement was signed between the company Rosatom Technologies for Construction and the Republic of Kazakhstan regarding the creation of a Nuclear Science and Technology Center," the statement reads. "The document provides for collaboration in preparing the feasibility study and implementing priority project activities," the agency explained.
The signing took place during a seminar in Almaty dedicated to the design, construction, and operation of research nuclear facilities. The event brought together leading specialists from Kazakhstan and Russia and served as a platform for exchanging experience and discussing further development, the agency noted.
